ROGERS BEHAVIORAL HEALTH: WEST ALLIS THEARPY GARDEN
The garden at Rogers Behavioral Health in West Allis was designed around the idea of providing enclosure and refuge within the urban context. The garden design features 2 planes of crushed, compacted granite set within a concrete walking path. These planes are populated with a forest of birch allowing users to find refuge within the trees, to remain on the paths that surround, or to wander between the 2 experiences freely. Custom furnishings throughout offer varied places to sit, lean, gather, and relax. Soft lighting, water features, and a mix of evergreen and perennial vegetation soften the edges of the garden, creating a space of tranquility within the city.
