CONCORDIA 27
Near West Side Partners (NWSP) partnered with Wiegand Enterprises to develop and construct the Concordia 27 (C27) project to address economic, health and social inequities within the Near West Side community. After nearly a decade of intensive collaboration involving over 200 neighbors, stakeholders and community leaders, Concordia 27 provides a lively and inclusive space for members of the community to gather and access critical resources. The project occupies three formerly vacant historic buildings now renovated to accommodate the needs of a variety of tenants, including the NWSP offices and community meeting spaces; the Center for Independence commercial kitchen, which prepares over 20,000 meals per day to feed K-12 students throughout Milwaukee; Fruition MKE, an arts business incubator, coworking and maker space; Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee training, counseling and trauma informed care center; and 33 affordable workforce apartments in the Cecilia Apartment Building. Concordia 27 was partially funded by historic tax credits through the National Park Service and State of Wisconsin Historic Preservation Office.
